St. Francis House (SFH) rebuilds lives by providing refuge and pathways to stability for adults experiencing homelessness and poverty. They deliver a continuum of comprehensive programs and services to formerly homeless tenants who are housed in both site-based and scattered-site units.

St. Francis House seeks an Associate Director of Housing to implement and maintain the effective operations of St. Francis House’s (SFH) housing programs, which includes Housing Navigation, Rapid Rehousing, and Residential Services to ensure that individuals experiencing homelessness have the supports, connections, and basic skills they need to obtain housing and remain successfully housed to achieve overall stability. The Associate Director of Housing ensures services and programming run smoothly and works to expand permanent housing services to guests housed outside of the campus.

Major Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day oversight of department and staff; interview, select, and train staff; provide consistent supervision and ongoing support to direct reports in addressing immediate needs, meeting program goals and objectives, and managing staff
  • Work closely with the Director of Housing to ensure SFH’s permanent housing programs embed best practices and applies a Housing First approach
  • Provide on-going training and professional development to the Housing Placement, RRH and Residential Services teams on topics critical to the stabilization of all clients
  • Manage and lead a program model of service that is integrated with other SFH programs and services and reflects the SFH Philosophy of Care
  • Provide direct service to clients as needed and oversee crisis management and clinical response to complex cases
  • Collaborate closely with the Director of Day Shelter to ensure best practices around security and safety of the residential floors
  • Oversee contracts and deliverables related to all housing programs; act as primary liaison with external partners and funders
  • In partnership with the Director, provide input on the creation of housing department budget and manage budget
  • Work with leadership team to innovate and expand SFH housing and stabilization programs and services
  • Contribute to grant proposals by providing key data, statistics and other relevant information needed regarding housing stabilization
  • Take an active role on the SFH leadership team, contributing to the implementation of strategic projects and agency improvement

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of and firm commitment to the Housing First Model
  • Five years of management/ supervisory experience required; clinical supervision and affordable housing program management experience preferred
  • Experience providing direct services and supervision to staff providing direct services to people with one or more of the following characteristics:  homeless, living with substance use disorder and/or mental illness, and/or have histories of criminal activity and incarceration
  • Content knowledge in the field of affordable housing, including federal (HUD), state and local guidelines for supportive housing, subsidized housing, and housing-based supportive services for formerly homeless individuals strongly preferred
  • Ability to manage complex situations with patience, pacing, and consistency, and function in a fast-paced, stressful environment
  • Strong administrative, management, team building, collaboration skills needed
  • Lived experience of homelessness and/or recovery a plus
  • Masters in Social Work or Counseling with clinical licensure required
  • Bilingual a plus
  • Live within commuting distance of SFH’s downtown Boston location; possess reliable transportation/driver’s license for occasional field visits
